Top Ten Tuesday: Spring TBR

Top Ten Tuesday: Spring TBR

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created by The Broke and the Bookish.  Each week they provide a topic for a Top Ten list. Check out the link to see what topics they have planned for the coming weeks.

Spring has sprung (kind of. Well, actually, it’s still pretty naff here in the Shropshire. But we can pretend, right?).

As far as I’m concerned there’s no better way to celebrate a new season than to plan out what I’m going to be reading for the coming months. Although, I must admit that I’m not so committed to the seasons that I have to theme my reading around them. The exception is probably summer, but that’s more accidental than planned.

Anyway, spring this year is going to be special. Totally better than past springs. This spring I have a proper holiday booked. I’m going all the way up to Scotland for a few days in April and I’m sure this holiday is going to be absolutely glorious.  I also have a few random days booked off from work and there’s the Easter holidays as well.

What this all amounts to, basically, is that Spring has awesome levels of potential in terms of leisure time. And when I say leisure time I really mean reading time.

So, what am I going to be reading? Well, the list below features a few of my ideas:

1) Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare

The Mortal Instruments, whilst not my favourite series, is the one I owe a lot to. It was the first fandom I ever got properly involved with. I wrote fanfiction, ran fanclubs and curated a dedicated tumblr with quite a few followers, thank you very much. The series represents the first time I felt comfortable connecting with people online about something I was passionate about. So I’m gonna read this new Shadowhunters series for the nostalgia factor.

2. The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison

I haven’t reread this wondrous book for a whole three months. What is wrong with me? Seriously, this book is totally amazing and one day I will review it but I haven’t yet been able to put my love for it into words.

3. Howl’s Moving Castle  by Diana Wynne Jones

Another reread, because why the heck not? I love this book to pieces.

4. The Darkest Part of the Forest by Holly Black

I got this as soon as it came out but I haven’t got to it yet😦. THIS MUST CHANGE. Ever since I read and adored The Coldest Girl in Coldtown I have vowed to read more Holly Black books.

5. Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater

I read Dream Thieves a month or so ago and now I’m ready for the penultimate book. I’m quite pleased with how I’ve paced myself in terms of reading this series. I’m hoping to be up to date just in time for the release ofThe Raven King at the end of April.

6. Men at Arms by Terry Pratchett

I’m on a City Watch roll at the moment having just finished Guards! Guards! and Night Watch. Sam Vimes is one of my favourite characters ever.

7. Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

Reread number 3! (I think). Having read Carry On earlier in the year I’m feeling some nostalgia for Cath and her fanfiction.

8. Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

I honestly don’t know why I haven’t read this already. It sounds amazing and I’m sure I will love it.

9. Magician by Raymond E. Feist

I don’t think I’ve reread this in full since I first read it when I was 13. No time like the present, right? I really, really enjoyed this when I was younger (mostly because young person discovers they have magic powers= my favourite trope and this fits the bill perfectly.) I’m really hoping that I enjoy it just as much now that I’m a bit older.

10. Queen of Shadows by Sarah J Maas

When Heir of Fire came out I read it almost straight away and enjoyed so I have no idea why I didn’t jump straight into this one. I’m challenging myself to get over whatever block there is between me and this book by putting it on my Spring TBR list. Fingers crossed that I finally read it!

Bonus: A Darker Shade of Magic and A Gathering of Shadows by VE Schwab

I read the first book when there was a lot of hype going around and I did love it but I want to reread it with a fresh mind and make sure the love is completely my own, if that makes sense? And then I will get to A Gathering of Shadows, which I handily won in a Goodreads giveaway. Woop woop!

What’s on your Spring TBR?
