On the Plus Side is a feature on my blog that covers the positive things that have happened to me recently.
Today is a Bank Holiday in the UK which means I get to spend an extra day gaming and reading books. I’ve been having a hard time with some work related things lately (I’m on the lookout for a new job) so it’s been wonderful to have some extra time to devote to fun stuff.
Fire Emblem = Happiness
Speaking of gaming, recently Fire Emblem: Fates was released. I have been absolutely obsessed with it since it came through my door. This game has reached and surpassed my expectations. I’m playing the Birthright path first as a warm up for Conquest (the game has been split into three different paths that you have to purchase individually/as DLC to get the ‘full’ experience).
My love of Fire Emblem started with Fire Emblem: Awakening. I played it while I was in my first year at uni. I picked a bad time to start it really, because I was in the middle of revising for and taking exams. I was totally addicted. To this day, FE:A is the game I have spent the most hours playing in total (with Persona 4: Golden a close second), mostly because I’ve replayed it so often. It was the first game I decided to buy download content for, because I was so ravenous for more. I didn’t know I liked strategy games so much until I played this one.
So it is with great joy that I say Fire Emblem: Fates is just as enjoyable. I have a lot more gameplay to go (like 2 ½ games worth) and I hope it takes me a long, long time. I’ll try to write more thoughts on it when I’ve finished the whole package.
Late to the Game (of Thrones)
In other news, I’ve been getting into Game of Thrones. I’m only a few years late to the party. I’ve finished season one and started season two. I’ve picked up the books as well, but I’ve kind of been neglecting the paperbacks in favour of the audiobooks. I’m listening to one right now, actually.
I’ve already gone and got myself a Jon Snow funko pop. I always knew I would enjoy Game of Thrones; I’ve just been waiting to have the time to finally concentrate on it. Also, when I get into something I really get into it so I had to wait until I was in want of new fandom. Those are my excuses for leaving it so long, anyway. I’m quite glad I can binge the series and books. There’s a lot of material available at this point.
What else have I been up to? Well, I went on holiday to Scotland last month but I’m going to talk about that in a separate post. In short, though, it was a wonderful holiday. Scotland is absolutely beautiful, particularly the area around Loch Ness.
Through the Looking Glass
Last Friday I went to the cinema to watch Alice Through the Looking Glass. It’s not the best film I’ve ever seen but I still enjoyed it. There were grey characters, cool costumes and time travel. Good fun all round! The character of Time stole the show for me.
Ah, retail therapy. This month I have bought some awesome stuff, even if I do say so myself.
The top two purchases are my BB-8 alarm clock and my unicorn themed iPod touch cover. I just want to stare at my iPod constantly because it’s so pretty and adorable! My Jon Snow funko pop, mentioned, above is also a favourite but some of his paint work is rather dodgy. The Sirius Black funko I purchased earlier in the month, however, is perfect.
