As I write this it is raining outside. The time is 4:46 am on the 1st January 2017. I missed midnight.
I’ve always found the sound of rain pattering on my window in the darkness soothing.
As last year closed and this year began I slept quietly at home. That wasn’t my intention. I thought I would at least stay awake long enough to watch out the window as other people let off fireworks in my street, but no.
I’m not disappointed though. 2017, for me, has politely and quietly tip toed through the door and that’s okay. I’m not really looking for Big Bang levels of change in my life this year. What I want is stability. I want continuous improvement that marches on determinedly without too much fuss.
Only time will tell how this year goes but I’m hopeful that it will go well.
I have a few ideas for goals I want to achieve this year. I’ve tried to be much more realistic with them this year because I know I can do these things easily, and when I do I’ll feel much more confident in my ability to do the things I set out to do.
I’m really looking forward to reflecting back on these goals at the end of the year, whereas in previous years I’ve felt like a failure and haven’t even wanted to look at my start of year goals because I knew my achievements would not be great.
My 2017 goals:
- Read 50 books (including at least three non-fiction books)
- Keep a book journal for the entire year
- Walk 10,000 steps a day (0r at least 70,000 a week)
- Start learning German seriously
- Write something fictional at least once a week
- Explore more of the UK 🇬🇧
Happy New Year to you all!
